What's the Preferred Term - 2/28/2011

Apologies for missing last week's WTPT post.

Recap from 2 weeks ago: We did not get any responses for either term, so we will keep the current preferred terms: "HAO:0000942: The sclerite that is unpaired and located just dorsally of the basal part of the aedeagus in some Aculeata" we chose the term "spatha"; "HAO:0001027: The line that traverses the mesoscutum between the antemedian and postmedian wing processes." we chose the term "transcutal line".

What's the Preferred Term - 2/15/2011

Recap from last week: Last week we had one response for the first preferred term and none for the second. Schulmeister stated "I use external male genitalia and copulatory apparatus and copulatory organ. If Latin, then armatura genitalis", later suggesting "armatura genitalis". We would like to maintain using English terms (as decided in a previous WTPT), so we will use "external male genitalia" for the preferred term for "HAO:0000312: The anatomical cluster that is composed of the cupula, gonostyle, volsella and the aedeagus". For the second term, representing "HAO:0000271: The ridge that is marginal or submarginal, extends along the dorsal margin of the propleuron and serves as the site of origin of the lateral propleuro-postoccipital muscle" we have chosen "dorsal propleural ridge".

What's the Preferred Term - 2/7/2011

Recap from last week: For the first class, two suggested preferred terms were selected: Broad selected "postpectal carina", while Ohl preferred "precoxal carina (of mesopleuron)". Since the "precoxal carina" part is a homonym of " HAO:0001324 - The carina that delimits dorsally the precoxal sulcus" we have chosen to use "postpectal carina" (which is prevalent in ichneumonoid and chalcidoid literature). For the second class, no responses were sent, thus we will retain our preferred label "gaine" for "The anatomical cluster composed of the second valvifer and the third valvula."
